RRRT in Cook Islands

RRRT's current support to the country is through the inclusion of participants from the country to its regional training for lawyers, Members of Parliaments and judicial officials.

Past RRRT support to Cook Islands include;

  • Community para-legal trainings (1997-1999)
  • Support to Punanga Tauturu Incorporated (PTI) through the Provision of a Legal Rights Training Officer 1998-2002 and support to PTI through capacity building / training from 2002-8
  • Support resulting in the ratification of the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), CEDAW Optional Protocol , Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) by Cook Islands
  • Support to the write up of the Cook Islands initial CEDAW report
  • Provision of national level training on human rights ratification and reporting to NGOs and Government as well as on UPR reporting
  • The HIV, Ethics and Human Rights review in Cook Islands, 2009
