Dr Frances Koya Vaka’uta joins SPC after a long career in education. A teacher by profession, she joined USP in 1998 teaching and researching on Curriculum Studies, Culture and Multicultural Education, Small Island Developing States, Indigenous Pedagogies and Methodologies, Resilience and Education for Sustainability. Over the last fifteen years, she has been actively engaged in policy development and community outreach in the areas of education, youth, arts and culture. Prior to joining the HRSD team, Frances was Associate Professor and Director of the Oceania Centre for Arts, Culture and Pacific Studies at the USP Laucala Campus in Suva. A passionate advocate for Pacific arts and culture, she feels privileged to have the opportunity to continue to serve the region in her new role as Team Leader – Culture for Development.
