RRRT in Vanuatu

VanuRRRT is currently supporting the country in the following areas;

  • Placement of a Country Focal Officer to support activities on Gender Equality, Human rights and Strategic legislative lobbying campaigns
  • Support to the National Task Force on VAW - the Family Protection Act
  • Support to the development of policies and plan which comprehensively address Violence Against Women
  • Inclusion of participants into regional training for lawyers, MPs, civil society and judicial officials
  • Support to civil society, civil servants in legislative lobbying
  • Provision of national level training on human rights ratification and reporting to NGOs and Government as well as on UPR reporting

Past support included,

  • Support to the minimum wage increase, 2012
  • Community Paralegal Training
  • The HIV, Ethics and Human Rights review in Vanuatu, 2009
  • Provided Policy writing support for NGOs, Government and CSOs for assistance on CEDAW, CRC, HIV policy papers and other UN convention reports
  • Support resulting in amended definition of rape in the Penal Code Amendment Act 2003
  • Support to the passing of the Family Protection Act, 2008
